Dr Elena Pino-Korsheninnikova is originally from Perm, Russia. It is here where she graduated as M.D. and did her training in internal medicine.
She then moved to Helsinki, Finland studying mechanisms of insulin resistance (as the basis for diabetes and obesity) in human muscle and fat tissue for her PhD.
After completing her PhD, Dr Pino-Korsheninnikova then moved to The Netherlands, working as a post-doc research fellow at the University of Leiden Medical Centre researching insulin resistance in the liver. She is now regarded as an expert in the field of obesity.
To satisfy Dutch medical requirements, Dr Pino-Korsheninnikova completed an additional three years of basic medical training at the University of Leiden, working in a psychiatric hospital and clinics specialising in obesity. She then qualified as a general practitioner (GP).
Since 2016, Dr Pino-Korsheninnikova has been working at the IHCH as one of our regular GPs whilst continuing her interest in health issues associated with obesity.
